FRA Branch 294 has awarded its local and regional essay winners with cash awards and certificates of achievement.
Molly Neal was the 1st Place 12th Grade winner for Branch 294 in which she received a generous cash prize of $200. Molly attends the Cumberland County High School. In addition, she was the FRA Southeast Region's (SER) third place winner to which she was awarded a beautiful certificate of achievement. Presenting the award was FRA SER President Tim Grimes immediately after our regular meeting on April 11, 2026.
The SY 2025-26 FRA Branch 294 2nd Place Winner was 7th Grader Caleb Thompson of Homestead Elementary. He was awarded a CASH award of $150 on March 14th, 2026 immediately following the Branch's regular monthly meeting.
The SY 2025-26 FRA Branch 294 2nd Place Winner was 9th Grader Asher Martin of York Agricultural. He was presented a CASH award of $150 by FRA SER President Tim Grimes.
The SY 2025-26 FRA Branch 294 2nd Place Winner was 10th Grader William Guo of Montgomery Bell Academy. He was presented a CASH award of $150 by Branch President "Gabby" Gellman.

The SY 2025-26 FRA Branch 294 3rd Place Winner was 7th Grade Homeschooler Mason Gavin Williams. He was presented a CASH award of $150 by Branch President "Gabby" Gellman.

In addition, Molly was the 1st Place 11th Grade winner for Branch 294 in which she received an additional cash prize of $150. Molly attends the Cumberland County High School. The SY 2024-25 FRA Branch 294 3rd Place Winner was 12th Grader Chloe Taylor of Clark Range High School. She was awarded a cash prize of $100. Presenting the awards is Essay Chairman Tim Grimes (L) and Branch 294 President Gabby Gellman.
SY 2024-25 2nd Place 9th Grade Winner is William Guo a student at Montgomery Bell Academy of Nashville, TN. Making the presentation on March 4th is Tim Grimes the Essay Contest Chairmen for Branch 94. The cash award was $150.00. William's mother Hong was present when Tim Grimes made the presentations.
The SY 2024-25 3rd Place 7th Grade Winner is Daxton Farmer (C) a student at Stone Elementary School. Daxton received a $100 cash award and certificate of achievement. Presenting the awards is Tim Grimes (L) and Gabby Gellman (R)
"What Memorial Day Means To Me"
On March 9, 2024, immediately after Branch 294's regular monthly meeting, a ceremony was held to recognize the winners of the Annual Fleet Reserve Association's Essay Contest. This year's theme was "What Memorial Day Means to Me." Each winner read their essay to the Branch and its visitors, were presented a certificate by the Branch President Tim Grimes, and given a cash prize by the Branch Treasurer Alex Alenitsch. Afterwards, the winners and their guests were invited to stay for a light lunch with the Branch and Auxiliary membership.
